I’ve been seeing QR codes on several vehicles–from cabs to car dealerships, busses, etc. If you can catch them in time to scan them you’ll find out that most of the codes aren’t going to a mobile site or a video. Instead they go to a good old electronic brochure. I asked a cab driver in Chicago recently about using the codes. He said that it just shows that they are technologically advanced and there for smarter and safer. I explained how they could use that code to increase business and share information, I mean after all, if you are going to spend the time to make the code, why not use it correctly. I know this digresses from your original question. I find it interesting that QR codes have enough presence in the public now that some companies are using the codes simply as a way to show that they are current with technology and the “times.” The QR code itself is now a public relations tool. The cab company didn’t care that they could use it to unlock the door of mobile sales and technology, instead, the code served it’s purpose for them in another way. And, on a personal note, with me, it worked. I chose the cab wit the QR code on it for the very reasons the company added it to the car.
